Graduated with honours from the Academy of Music in Katowice in the class of prof. Henryka Januszewska-Stańczyk. Finished the University of Economics in Katowice in the faculty of cult ure manager. Participant of many master’s vocal workshops i.a.:  prof. Helena Łazarska (Austria), Daniela Weeks (USA), Kaludi Kaludov (Bulgaria), Paula Esswooda (UK). Graduated from the vocal master class prof. Cesare Colona (Germany-Berlin). Conducts extensive artistic activities; numerous of concerts with a wide range of repertoire and styles, chamber recitals, shows,  opera, operetta and oratorio-cantata concerts.

In 2000-2006 held a position of a choirmaster in Silesia University being responsible for Song and Dance Group within artistic and substantive area.  He was a music director Of the International Student Folklore Festival of Silesia University at the same time.

Takes part in many distinguished music festivals i.e.: Alkagran Festival in Czechowice- Dziedzice, International Vocal Music Festival “Viva il canto” in Cieszyn, International Grzegorz Gorczycki Festival, Bach’s Festival in Świdnica, European Jan Kiepura Festival in Krynica and many more. He took part in a premiere of tenor and French horn duet ‚Song of time” by Marius Baranaukus. It was within the 4th International Young Composers’ Meeting in Katowice. In 2007-2009 he was a part of ‚The 12 Tenors’group.

Was recording and concerting for i.a Katowice Radio, TV Polonia, TV Bali, and German televisions.  Cooperated with many noble conductors such as: Igor Dochovic, Andrzej Zubek, Michał Dworzyński, Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk, Jan Wincenty Hawel, Peter Moss, Heribert Beissel, Paul Esswood, Andrew Parrott, Gabriel Chmura, Radosław Labakhua, Kazimierz Kryza, Elio Boncompagni and many more. Gave many concerts in Argetina, The Chech Republic,  France, Spain, Germany, Norway, Portugal,  m. in. w: Argentynie, Czechach, Francji, Hiszpanii, Niemczech, Norwegii, Portugalii, Sicily in Italy, and Bali Island ad many more.

In his programme can be found solo parts within both musical theatre and oratorio-cantata music. The repertoire is  rich in a magnificient chamber music of different styles and from different times, series of arias, duets, operas’ and operettas’ songs and musicals.

From January til April 2008 he took part in a number of auditions for the role of Tebalgo in ‚I Capuleti et i Montecchi’ opera by V. Belliniego in Berlin. He was the one to be choosen for the part, out of 400 candidates. The opera was realized with State Theatre of Braunschweig in June 2008. In in the same time he received the silver medal Arte Vocale in Royal Vocal Festival in Wilanów. In August 2008 was awarded ‚Golden Nightingale Belcanto’ statue in Belcanto Festival in Nałęczów

A laureate of Internationales Festival Junger Opernsanger where he created the role of Rudolf in “La boheme” by G. Puccini. Lisa Bryce, a soloist, was his partner playing the role of Mimi. Their performance was favourably commented by the German Press, and Sylwester Targosz-Szalonek was announced as an ‚Italian tenor from Poland’.

Cooperated with many significant cultural centres such as Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, The Great Theatre-Opera in Poznań, Teatro in Verdi, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Orchestra Sicilianain Italia, Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra, Concert Hall in Frankfurt, Śląsk, Poznań, Częstochowa etc.

 

He conducted vocal courses- Privat Vocal School prof. Cesare Colona in Berlin, Music University in Charkow (Ukraine). In 2010 took a position of a teacher in a vocal class in 1st and 2nd degree School of Music in Zabrze. 

At the end of 2010 he founded Orchestra of Archduchess Maria Krystyna Habsburg in Żywiec and is hosted in many prestigous stages and festivals as a manager, director and a main soloist

In December 2012 he was performing in Embassy of Poland in Indonesia to celebrate opening of the Honorary Consulate of Poland in Bali. He took part in contemporary premiere of ‚The Creation’ by J. Haydn with Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra. It was performed with Polish translation found 250 years ago. Years 2013/2014 were rich in many concerts with significant orchestras in Poland and abroad. During the time he co-organised Jan Kiepura Festival in Krynica Zdrój.

In 2015 was chosen to direct International Festival ‚RytmProArte’ in Gliwice. The time was also the beginning of cooperation with Polish Armed Forces- the soloist organised events and concerts e.g. The Grand Carnival Gala for the 6th Airborne Battalion commander in Gliwice. In 2016 he took part in many concerts and musical events around the world.

2017 is the year when Silesia Operetta Foundation was set up. Since 2018 Sylwester has been the president of the foundation and director of  Silesia Operetta Festival. Next to that he started Military and Insurgent Songs Festival. Next vocal challenges came in 2019 i.a. the first edition of ‚Silesia Sacred Festival’ and ‚Silesia Sinfonia Festival’. Sylwester Targosz-Szalonek is a ‚one-man band’, housing many talents manifested in different fields of art- active singer, teacher, conductor and director.

In 2020 he is a PhD graduate at the Music Academy in Gdansk
